Tuesday 5th May 2020

Good morning Luna Class. It's Tuesday 5th May.

All week we are going to be learning about (Victory in Europe Day) VE day which will be celebrated on Friday. It is the 75th anniversary of the end of (WW2) World War Two.

In Luna Class we are going to think about the games children would play, lots are games you know!

Have you ever played Hopscotch? If you have some chalk at home, can you draw one on the pavement.

How fast can you move?

Reading and phonics

Can you read this sentence?

Sam must jump in the pond and get wet.

Can you read these ch words ?

chin   chum   chop   rich  such   bench

Can you make up a sentence for each one? Tell an adult.

For example….My Mum is my chum!

Page 2 of The big Chip

What do you think the kids will do?

If you found a giant chip what would you do?

Can you point to the exclamation mark?

Now read the sentence again using the exclamation point to put expression in your voice.

Five Currant Buns In A Baker's Shop

Can you join in with this song? Remember to use 5 fingers and put one down each time bun gets taken away.

  • Today we are going to carry on with taking away.  Can you find a dice in your house? If not maybe a grown up could download a dice app onto their phone to help with this activity.
  • First you need to put ten small objects on your ten frame.  Next you need to roll the dice. How many spots are on the dice? This is how many toys you need to take away from the ten frame.  Can you tell your grown up how many toys are left?
  • Can you tell your grown up a ‘first, then, now’ story about the toys? For example, first there was 10 toys, then we took away 6 and now there are 4 toys left.
  • Repeat this activity 3 times.
  • If you want you can have a go at writing the number sentences down like this:  10 – 6 = 4

  • Ask a grown up to flash all the letter cards and get you to say the sounds as you see them.
  • Ask a grown up to flash all the high frequency word cards and get you to say the word you see.

Remember that this week we are writing sentences about a different picture each day.

First – look at the picture below and talk to your grown up about the picture…use these questions to help you:

  1. What can you see?
  2. Who are the characters?
  3. What do you think is happening?
  4. What might happen next?
  • Now think about some sentences you could write about the picture. How many words in your sentence? Keep saying the words so you remember your sentence. Now write the first word - listen for all the sounds and write them as you hear them. Carry on until you have finished the sentence.
  • Remember to say the words slowly out loud and listen for the sounds in the word and write those down…try not to copy words or trace words that your grown up has written as we want you to be able to listen for the sounds instead of copying them.
  • Once you have written your sentences – read them out loud.

Daily Challenge

  • Talk to your grown up about how we use water when we are cooking.
  • Can you help your grown up to cook something that involves water? For example jelly or pasta.
  • Can you write the recipe instructions for what you made? Draw some pictures to go with it.
  • Use the following words to help you start your sentences:

  • Remember to email us a photo so we can see all your delicious creations!
