Thursday 26th March 2020

Hello Callisto Class and welcome to day 4 of Home Learning.

I am very impressed with how many of you are logging in and registering on the Home Learning Page - keep it up.  On the register today please record how many reads you have done at home this week - just like Mr Haimes would be doing on a Thursday in Class.

Miss Dignan has created a class tournament between Callisto and Oberon on TT Rockstars and it starts today!  All you need to do is log on to TT Rockstars and work as quickly as you can through the times table questions - if everyone takes part over the next few days we should be able to beat Oberon - although I hear they are very good (Libby even beat Miss Dignan).  So come on everyone let's give it a go and see how we do!

Finally,  take some time out of your day and listen to David Walliams read some of his books to you.  Follow the link to his website and click on 'Elevenses' - then just sit back and enjoy.

Maths

Look at the slides below.  Try to draw one of the diagrams into you Home Learning Journal and measure the different angles around a point.  Take care with your measuring and let me know on the daily register what you notice?  Then try the worksheet on pages 53 and 54 of your workbook.

Here are some angle games for you to try if your MNP learning is still proving too tricky.

English

We are continuing to focus on Castle Midnight today. Read the opening to the narrative again (below) and think carefully about the Master: what does he look like? How does he behave? What makes him so formidable?

(If somebody is formidable they are somebody who is quite scary, you wouldn't want to argue with them!)

Your task today is to write a character description of the Master.

Steps to success

  • Use show not tell sentences to engage your reader (use his behaviour to show me what he's like, instead of just telling me what he's like)
  •  Vary your sentence structures, including use of speech - the way a person talks and what they say can teach us lots about them
  •  Use a range of adjectives, verbs and adverbs

It was the dead of night.

All that could be heard was the muffled beating of the creature’s enormous wings as it soared through the inky-black sky. Behind it, at the end of a frayed length of rope, sat the coachman. Coat wrapped tightly around his broad shoulders, his mission tonight was a straightforward one: to escort the two strangers to Castle Midnight. It all seemed straightforward to him. Even if it wasn’t, he always did as the Master bade. No one ever dared to disobey the Master, especially on a night such as this…

Reading

Below you will find the pages of Chapter 7 of 'Edge of Extinction'.  In this Chapter Sky is making her escape from the compound - please read the chapter carefully.

List the items that Sky took from the marines' barracks (page 92) and write a sentence explaining how you think she will use each of them.

Topic - Science

In Term 2 we learnt all about forces.  Today at home I would like you to make a paper aeroplane and measure how far it travels.  Compete with someone else who is at home - Who's aeroplane travels furthest?  Can you use what you find out to improve the design of your aeroplane and make it travel further?

If you have never made a paper aeroplane before follow the link below to find instructions to help you.
