Maths task

 

  • How do we measure?
    • Words to learn to help do this activity:-
      •  Tall, tallest, taller than, small, smallest, smaller than, short shortest, shorter than, long, longest, longer than, measure,
    • Phrases to use:
      • How tall is this? How long is this?
      • Is this one the tallest/ shortest/ smallest?
      • Is this taller/ longer/ shorter than that one?
    • What you will need:-
      • Your hands, feet, a piece of wool or ribbon or string a cushion, a sofa or a bed
    • What to do:-
      • Choose one item to use to measure with- it can be a short piece of string or wool or ribbon.
      • Now place it alongside a book or magazine, starting at the end.
        • ( Ask is it longer or shorter than the book/ magazine?
      • Now use a large toy (or use your cushion from the previous days)and place ( stretch out) the string/ ribbon/wool star next to the object. Count how many strings long it is from the beginning to the end of it. ( say – “This one is …. strings long”)
      • Then use a table or if your prefer you can again use the bed or sofa as you did the previous day- Place your string next to the start of the table ( or bed/ sofa). Count how many strings long it is from the beginning to the end of it. ( say – “This one is …. strings long”)

 

    • Investigate
      • Investigate-
      • Can you find something that is longer than your string?
      • Can you find something shorter than your table/ sofa/ bed bed to measure and find out how many  strings long it is?
        • In your home learning journal can you draw your toy or cushion/ book   and the number of strings long it is

English phonic/ writing task:

We are split into 2 groups for our phonics work.

  • If you are in Mrs Masters’ group [ BH SE LL HW RL LB]  then  please COPY OUT THESE WORDS TWICE** and then CUT OUT EACH WORD:-

      • **we will be using these words to play lots of phonic games this week and next week, so please feel free to write each word using felt-tips onto cardboard ( perhaps the back of a cereal  packet?)
    • 5  Games to play this week using the words:-
  1.  HUNT THE WORD-parents choose 4 words, show them to your son. Can he read it to you or you read it to him and he repeats it back. Then place the words in 4 separate parts of the garden or house. You say the word and your son has to run and find it. ( do this every day using 4 different words)
  2. SENTENCE MAKER-use these words (they looked for) and finish the sentence e.g. They looked for stars/ They looked for aliens creeping around/ They looked for peace and quiet/ They looked for  chocolate. ( Mrs Osborn’s favourite!) Can you make a really funny or silly or long sentence?
  3. SPLAT THE WORD- choose 2 words and  put them on the floor or table in front of you. Use your hand or a wooden spoon to take turns to say one word and winner is the  one who splats the word first. Repeat! ( please take care!)
  4. COPY ME QUICK - Choose one word and copy the word as fast as you can  and as many times as you can in 30 seconds
  5. SOUND-SWAP  Use these sounds f g e a o m r l c from your brown envelope to make the following words:- make sure you “say the sound as you point to EACH sound, then say the word”

    •  Put out all your words and ask your parent to use their stopwatch on their phone and time you to see how many words you can read in 30 seconds

Reading:

Read a book (from your book bag or one from home).  Copy the title of your book into your home learning journal. Copy one sentence from your book each day until you have written 5 sentences. Then try to re-read those sentences you have written to your parents.

 

Topic:

COOKING

Jam tarts Cooking recipe

  • Ingredients:
    • 150g Plain flour
    •  75g Butter
    • Pinch of salt
    • Jam [or lemon curd if you prefer]
    • Cup of cold water
  • You will need:-

Bowl,  tablespoon, teaspoon, circle cutter, baking tray

  • Turn on oven- 190C ( 170C  fan, gas mark 5)

 

  • What do I do?
    • 1st put flour into bowl
    • 2nd add the butter
    • 3rd use FINGERTIPS to rub the butter into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs
    • 4th add 2 tablespoons of cold water and  mix in until it starts to make a dough. ( you can add 1 or 2  more spoonful of water if needed.)
    • Roll out the dough
    •  Cut circles
    •  Place onto baking tray and add a teaspoon of jam in the middle of each circle
    •  Put in oven & bake for 20 mins
    • Cool and then eat YUM YUM
