Our topic title this term is 'Who's afraid of the dark?'. We will be reading The owl who's afraid of the dark by Jill Tomlinson in whole class reading. Please see our Knowledge Organiser below:
We will also be looking at seasonal changes in our science lessons and observing closely. Please see our Knowledge Organiser below to find out some more about what we are learning:
In our science lesson we went on a walk to find out what season we were in (Autumn). We found lots of signs of autumn on our walk including red and brown leaves fallen from the trees, pinecones, mushrooms and the weather.
On Wednesday Metis class was given a mystery present by the Gingerbread man. He had sent us some gingerbread man cookie making sets to make as a class and a story all about him to learn, retell and add actions to.
In Autumn there are many different celebrations such as Bonfire night. We learnt about the history of Bonfire night and what Guy Fawkes had planned a long time ago in 1601 and why we remember remember the 5th of November. We even got to watch fireworks at the end of the day!
As part of Wiltshire’s year of reading we had a zoom meeting with author and illustrator Robert Starling. He read to us some of his books including Fergal is fuming. Then he showed us how to draw one of his characters from his book.
As part of the intofilm festival Metis class, along with the rest of Studley Green Primary went to the odeon cinema. We watched the film ‘abominable’ which was all about a Yeti who had been captured and 3 friends went on a mission to get him home safely. We really enjoyed our trip to the cinema and wrote some fantastic recount writing after our trip.
