Spelling

Suffixes are letters that can be added to the end of words to change their meaning.

- Adding the suffix -ly, turns an adjective into an adverb
'nice' becomes 'nicely'

- If the word ends with 'y', the 'y' becomes an 'i', and then add -ly
'happy' becomes 'happily'

- If the word ends with 'le', drop the 'le' and add -ly
'terrible' becomes 'terribly'

Write each word three times and then write a sentence for each word. Ask someone in your house to help test you.

Music

African Drummers...

Watch the video below featuring the Jalikunda African Drums at the Montserrat African Music Festival:

Jalikunda African Drums

In your home learning journals:

  • How is the sound made? Think about how the drummers are producing the sound on these drums. Which part of the drum do they hit, and with what? Have any of you had a chance to play one of these types of drums before?
  • Can you make an instrument like this? In your learning journals, design you own similar instrument to what you saw on the video. Don't forget to label the household items that you add to your design. Could you use: cling film and a plastic cup or bowl?

If you are able to, make your instrument from your designs and have a go at playing it!
