Look at the image below. If you were in the lighthouse, what could you see? Write a description that tells the reader about the coast-line, the sea and the people/animals that can be seen. Think about how you can use your 5 senses in the description.

SUPER TASK - extend your writing by including information about the weather and how this may change from day to day and throughout the year.

Analytical Drawing from Observation: Sweets and candy bars.

Analytical drawing - means to explore and look at something in detail and then to record what you see.
Analytical drawing from observation is looking really carefully at something in front of you and drawing what you see. It is different to drawing from a picture or from your imagination because you have to describe what you see. Looking carefully is really important.

For this project you will need:

  • Some paper
  • A pencil
  • A rubber
  • A selection of colours
  • A object to draw – this can be something simple like a crushed can, a chocolate wrapper or a selection of sweets

If you want to watch someone doing an amazing drawing from observation of a sweet packet click here.

First carefully draw out the shape of the sweet

Then add some of the details and shading.

Look carefully at the style of the lettering on the wrapper.

Sweets are very colourful so add lots of colour.

We'd love to see your art, send a picture to and we will put it on the website!
