Monday 20th April 2020

Hello! We hope you had a lovely Easter and have managed to enjoy the sunshine.

Mrs Solomons and Mrs Lloyd have really enjoyed seeing the learning you have all been up to.

Make sure you look at the photos on our web page, so you can see what your friends have been up to at home.

When doing learning at home remember to spend no more than 10-15 minutes on an activity at a time. Try and keep the learning as active as possible and make sure you are having fun!

This term the theme is Water. We will continue to have a reading, writing and maths activity daily and link our topic of water to our daily challenge.

Reading & Phonics

Can you read this sentence?

The wind left the dust on the mat.  The lad got a red van.

We are going to learn a new sound this week.      It has 2 letters but one sound - the sound is 'sh'.

              shampoo                shoes                    shell                       shed

Can you go for a walk and see what you can find around your house that begins with sh?

Draw 5 things in your home learning book. Can you label them too?

This week we are going to read Shep and Tosh each day. Can you share this page with an adult ? What are the sh words on this page? What does pal mean ?

PE- Can you pretend to be a pirate?

  • Can you practise saying numbers in order? Start with number 1 and see how far you can go!
  • This week we are going to be learning all about ‘Capacity’.   This means the amount that something can contain.  For example how much water a bottle can hold / how much pasta will fit inside the bag.
  • As our new topic is Water we are going to be investigating capacity with water - you may like to do this week's maths activities outside or in the bath!
  • Can you gather up a variety of containers – make sure they are different sizes (Tall / short / fat / thin / big / small).  You will need these every day this week so keep them handy!
  • Investigate pouring water into each container – how much water does it take to fill each one? Is it the same amount or a different amount? More water or less water? Tell your grown up what you have discovered!

  • Ask a grown up to flash all the letter cards and get you to say the sounds as you see them.
  • Ask a grown up to flash all the high frequency word cards and get you to say the word you see.

  • Look at the pictures below.  Tell your grown up all the things that you can see.
  • Listen carefully to the words and see if you can hear all 4 sounds – say them out loud.
  • Write the words in your home learning book

Can you write the words for these pictures?

Daily Challenge - Talk to your grown up about this picture and find out where water comes from!

Music - Can you learn a new song about water and sing it to your family? Are there any other songs you can find about water?
