Reading and phonics

Our book this week is called Pip gets rich.

What do you think the word 'glints' means?

What would you do if you found a chest of treasure?

Please remember to share your reading book with an adult every day. Make sure you are saying the sounds and reading the words. You can pop up to school and get new books.

Can you read this sentence?

The shed can come up to the shop.

Can you get these phonics cards out of your pack?   ( ch  n   m  u  i)

Can you make the words  chum  and chin  ?

I am now going to ask you to make some alien words. These are not real words but sound funny!

Can you get these phonics cards out of your pack?   ( ch  n    a   o  sh )

Can you make the words chosh and chan?

Can you make your own musical shaker. This one is two pots taped together and then they have been decorated. What could you add inside to make a sound?

This week we are going to be learning about doubling.  Doubling is when we add the same number to itself.  For example if you have 2 objects we would add another 2 objects to it.  The answer for double 2 is 4….or we would write this in a number sentence as 2+2=4

Using playdough can you double the amount of objects in each of the pictures below? First, count how many objects there are, then make the same number and add them together. Have a go at writing the number sentences in your book.

  • Choose 6 letter cards and say the sounds as you see them. Now practise forming these letters – try writing them in different sizes…can you write the letter really really big? Now write it a bit smaller.  How many perfectly formed letters can you fit on one line?
  • Ask a grown up to flash all the high frequency word cards and get you to say the word you see.

Look at the images below - choose one that you can write a sentence about. For example - The fish can swim. Challenge yourself - Can you write a sentence for 3 of the pictures? Maybe you could join your sentences together using the word 'and' or 'because'. For example 'The pig and the hen had fun on the farm.'

Daily Challenge

This week we are going to be thinking about how we might travel on water.  Have a think about what different ways we can travel on water - talk to your grown up about it.

One of the main ways we can travel is on a boat.  Using books you have in your home or by searching on the internet with a grown up, what can you find out about boats?

Look at pictures of different types of boats. Which is your favourite type of boat? How many different types of boats can you find? Talk to your grown up about what makes them the same /different.  Keep your research handy as you will need it ready for tomorrow's activity.
