What makes you happy? What makes you sad? When you feel sad, it is often doing something that makes you happy that takes away that sadness. A happiness box is a physical item that you can look at and touch when you are feeling sad, it can help calm you when you are feeling angry or soothe you when you are worried. It can be totally personalised to look however you like and you can choose whatever you like to keep in it. Follow the instructions below to make your own happiness box.
Find your box. Shoeboxes are good because they have a lid. The lid makes it special because you cannot see what is inside, until the need to open it. It is also private, unless you want to share.
Keeping a box undecorated is fine, but decorating it helps to make it personal to you. Use stickers, pens, paint, wrapping paper...whatever you like.
Now choose what you would like to put in your box. What items make you happy? Is it a toy? The feel of a material? An item of clothing? Some putty or slime? A special photo? A hairbrush? A book? A mirror? A special note from a friend or family member?
Once you have put your special items in your happiness box, it is ready to use. Keep it somewhere that you can easily reach when you need it.
