Friday 22nd May 2020

Atlas Class Everyday tasks  Friday 22nd May 2020 ( 21.5.2020)

Today and all week we will be doing some active learning .

Having spoken to parents last week, I realised that many children in my class  simply need to do something different. So I am going to suggest 3 FUN activities to try each day.  Hope you enjoyed all the activities yesterday ( Did you enjoy eating your food person? Yesterday?)

Activity 1- OLD NEW PAPER!

Investigate how to make new paper look old

What you need:- piece of white A4 size paper, a used teabag ( cold )

  • We are going to make a new piece of paper look old [and use it make it into a treasure map for Activity 2.]
  • First put a few drops of water onto your teabag.
  •  Next pick up the teabag and carefully smooth it all over the white paper so that it leaves a tea-stain everywhere.
  • Cover all the paper.
  •  The scrunch the paper up a little, and leave it to dry

Investigate how to make a treasure map

What you need:-your stained paper made in the last activity, some felt-tips

You are going to make a treasure map.

  • Somewhere on your paper write the word START
  • Then draw lines -------- all over until you decide where to end. Then draw X.
  • The X shows where the treasure is.
  •  If you are at home, you will need to decide where to end your treasure – at school I will be hiding some treasure for the children to try to find.
  • If you like , try to add some picture information to your map- e.g. pictures of a stream  (bath), mountain ( staircase), cave ( under a duvet) until you get to the X

Investigate  following your treasure map

What you need:-your treasure map , some treasure  and a box  to put it in

  • Follow your treasure map around. Perhaps share it with a family member at home.
  • Do you want to dress up to go on your treasure hunt? Will you be a pirate or a superhero?
  • Can they follow your clues and find the hidden treasure?
  • Is the treasure something you can eat  (some biscuits or sweets)  or wear ( make a paper crown?) _ remember to put the treasure in the box and hide it in the place you have marked with an X on your treasure map.

If you prefer:- Parents do please feel free to open the following bbc webpage and help your son join in with any of the Maths activities instead  each day.

BBC Bitesize daily lessons Maths  Y1  Friday 22nd May -  (or if you prefer some of you can click on and use Y2 instead)

There are also some English and topic activities you might like to use too.

I sincerely hope you all have a good rest over the half term break. Please tale care and remember that even if the teachers t school can’t see you, we will all still be thinking of you and talking about how proud we are of you. Parents this message is EXACTLY the same to you too.

Please look after yourselves,

Mrs Osborn xx
