Welcome to Atlas Class!

Atlas Class is one of three Social Communication/Complex Needs Resource Base classes at Studley Green.

Mrs Osborn is the class teacher with Mrs Masters, Miss Henley, Mrs Grieve and Mrs Collett who are the Learning Support Assistants.

Children's learning is broadly based around a highly differentiated Early Years and Key Stage 1 curriculum and through a variety of methods specifically matched to each child's individual special need.

Communication is key to all our learning so Makaton is an integral part of our daily 'language' used by all staff to support all children.

We also use visual timetables and visual supports such as PECS as well as  Attention Autism activities and Social Stories to aid social skills.

Individual 'hands-on' learning through sensory experiences are key to helping our children build on their learning at a pace that they can access and we aim to ensure all children experience success in their efforts. We do our utmost to support and extend children's skills and help them explicitly make connections with each step of their learning.

Physical skills are such an important part in supporting children's learning and all children participate in daily exercise sessions  at the start of the morning to improve  their gross and fine motor skills. This helps them to become more proficient in climbing stairs, changing for PE, manipulating tools such as pencils, scissors and paintbrushes at school, but also in their everyday life skills such as  putting on their coat, gloves, shoes and self-care after using the toilet. We believe that education is required for learning to cope with everyday life experiences, as well as develop life-long reading, writing and maths learning skills.
