PSHE

Our beliefs

At Studley Green Primary School, we believe that Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education plays a vital role in supporting children’s personal development, well‑being and future success.

While we recognise that children grow and develop within the context of their families and communities, we believe that school has an important responsibility to help pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to live healthy, safe and fulfilling lives. PSHE supports pupils to understand themselves, build positive relationships and develop respect for others.

We believe PSHE is a life‑long learning process that helps pupils develop confidence, resilience and a strong sense of self. Through PSHE, pupils learn to make informed choices, understand and manage risk, recognise when they need support, and know how to ask for help. This supports our commitment to Character, Community and British Values, preparing pupils to participate positively and responsibly in society.

Our PSHE curriculum

At Studley Green, our PSHE curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and carefully planned to meet the needs of our pupils and reflect the world they are growing up in.

We use the SCARF programme (Coram Life Education) as the core of our PSHE curriculum. SCARF provides a progressive and age‑appropriate framework that supports pupils’ learning across key themes including:

  • Health and wellbeing
  • Relationships
  • Living in the wider world
  • Safety and emotional development

Learning is sequenced so that pupils revisit key themes over time, developing deeper understanding and confidence as they progress through the school. Lessons provide opportunities for discussion, reflection and exploration of real‑life situations, helping pupils apply learning meaningfully.

PSHE includes Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), which is taught sensitively and appropriately, supporting pupils to understand physical and emotional changes, healthy relationships, and the importance of respect and consent. Teaching is always age‑appropriate and delivered in line with statutory guidance.

Our PSHE curriculum supports pupils to:

  • Develop healthy lifestyles and positive mental well‑being
  • Build respectful, positive relationships
  • Understand diversity and respect difference
  • Make safe, informed choices
  • Develop aspirations and confidence for the future

Parents are encouraged to engage with PSHE learning, and relevant policies are available for families who wish to find out more about how PSHE and RSE are taught at Studley Green.
