Phonic and Reading Schemes

We use a range of materials at Studley Green Primary School that best fit the needs of our children.

Phonic materials

This year we are beginning to roll out a new phonics program called 'Sounds Write'.  The children in our EYFS class 'Luna' will be starting the year following this program and the children in 'Pan', 'Metis', Atlas and 'Pandora' will be beginning to develop their phonic knowledge using the program as each Key stage 1 and Resource Base teacher receives intense training in term 1.  We are planning to hold an information session for parents in the near future to explain more about this program - so look out for further details.

In addition to this new program, teachers use a range of additional support material when planning their teaching.  These include:

  • Letters and sounds
  • Support for Spelling
  • Babcock No Nonsense Spelling
  • Read, write inc (this is used as an intervention tool)
  • Sound Discovery (this is used in Hydra Class)

Reading materials

  • Collins Big Cat

This has supplemented with other books that have been matched by staff to the correct level within the Big Cat scheme.
