We've had a royal start to the term and the children have fully immersed themselves in their holiday challenge. The research and time spent to make posters has been excellent|! The posters will be displayed in the corridor by Ganymede and Titan's classrooms. The children have thought of interesting questions that they would like answered through out the topic.
Week beginning June 25th the children will be transported to carnival season in South America. They will create art & DT pieces influenced by the carnival decoration, along with learning samba dancing and will take part in a drumming workshop.
Term 5 has started off with a big push, where the children had the opportunity to explore 'We The Curious'. They took part in a forces workshop where they learnt key vocabulary and had the opportunity to explore if different items were magnetic or not.
As part of the White Rose math curriculum we have been learning Fractions and putting our reasoning and problem solving skills to the test. To help us with our fractions we made delicious pizzas and the children had to solve problems in order to gain their ingredients.
We have already had a great start to the term with a trip to the river but also Ganymede have become musically inclined with workshops provided by A-level students of Clarendon Academy (Photos to follow). They had the opportunity to make music using singing, clapping, music computer software and keyboards. It's safe to say everybody had a great time.
The very exciting occasion of World Book Day is upon us (March 1st) , the focus is on Peter Pan. It will be very exciting to see what adventure stories the children create but also to see what characters they dress up as. Check back to see the different costumes and stories.
Children are expected to read every day, for at least 10 minutes; this will be accompanied by a comprehension question. This will enable the children to develop their reading as well as their comprehension skills. We encourage the children to read 4 days a week in order to gain a ticket to read and be entered in to the prize draw every Friday. In Ganymede class we have high expectations for presentation, this is expected to continue in their homework and reading journals.
Children can also access reading eggs to read texts and play reading related games to develop their reading skills. As they complete these activities they earn golden eggs which they can use in 'The Mall' and to play different games. The link to Reading Eggs is at the bottom of this page.
The children's spelling homework links with the spellings they will have been learning at school. They will need to recall the spelling rules for that week to be successful in learning new words.
They can also go onto Spellodrome (please see the link below) to practise spelling rules that they have covered this year.
Every Friday, the children will be set several pieces of Mathletics homework which will complement the learning they have done during the week. If the children cannot access Mathletics at home, they can use our Computer Room during lunchtime.
